Center for Humans & Nature

Anja Claus is Senior Editor at the Center for Humans & Nature, where she shapes the creative direction and editorial development of Humans & Nature Press, Digital, and tends the voice of Humans & Nature Farm. As the Center’s Land Liaison, she weaves stories rooted in the living land of the Center’s Libertyville home into the heart of its publishing work via Stories From The Land. She has been nurturing connections with the Center since 2007.

Anja is currently co-editing Invitation to Listen: The Poetry of Plain, Air (Humans & Nature Press, 2026) with Katherine Kassouf Cummings — a collaborative work bringing together writer and scientist Robin Wall Kimmerer, composer Tonia Ko, visual artist A. Martinez, musicians of Spektral Quartet, and Potawatomi language keeper Justin Neely in response to the ecology of Chicago’s lakeshore. Stay tuned for its publication later in 2026, along with an accompanying website where readers can hear Robin Wall Kimmerer read her poem alongside the music of Plain, Air. (Coming soon to Humans & Nature Shop)

Anja holds a Master of Arts in Geography and Environmental Studies from Northeastern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
