Gregory E. Kaebnick is a scholar at The Hastings Center, where he writes and does research on synthetic biology and other emerging genetic technologies. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Gene Drive Research in Non-Human Organisms. He is the author of Humans in Nature: The World As We Find It and the World As We Create It (Oxford 2014), which explores issues in the human relationship to nature, including environmental preservationism, agricultural biotechnology, synthetic biology, and human enhancement. He is the principal investigator of a project funded by the National Science Foundation on the use of impact assessment mechanisms for applications of synthetic biology. He is also the editor of the Hastings Center Report.
