Mountaintop Removal

Appalachia’s night.

Black sky…
a great bed of coal
stretched above earth.

Moon tumbles
like a silver boulder
expelled from
mountaintop.

Weep, Pleaides,
my Seven Sisters.
Let your tears
rain down on
shattered mountains.

Where would the gods
have dwelled
if Mt. Olympus
had been mined?
