Dear Reader,

Today we’re happy to bring you essays and art recently published by Humans & Nature Press. Spanning from light pollution to our lithic kin, these beautiful pieces were selected from our 2023 digital open call. These offerings from the digital branch of Humans & Nature Press are free. We hope you’ll consider a donation to the Center for Humans & Nature to help us sustain and grow these efforts.

We’ve designed a set of five notecards, pictured below, showcasing the gorgeous covers from Elementals, the new book series from Humans & Nature Press. For a donation to the Center of $6 per month — or a one time donation of $72 or more — you’ll receive a set of these notecards.

With your donation, you are not only supporting free access to the Center’s digital press but all of the work we’ve been pursuing: Throughout the year, the digital press published essays, art, and poetry. In 2025, we’ll publish work on the theme of food, solicited during this year’s digital open call. This fall, the books branch of Humans & Nature Press launched the Elementals book series, and in 2026, we’ll begin publishing single-author manuscripts. We also welcomed new Editorial Advisory Board members and an Editorial Fellow along with an Artistic Fellow and a Center Fellow. Finally, this past summer, Humans & Nature Farm had its fledgling planting season and small first harvest! Now, we’re raising funds to hire Farm staff and build infrastructure to expand our planting and harvesting capacity.

The growth at Humans & Nature Press and Humans & Nature Farm couldn’t happen without the financial support of the Center’s community. We hope you will consider making a gift today, and we offer our deepest thanks for your care and consideration.
